Meet The Founders

Grace Terrelonge

I was the same age as Jesus when He was at the ‘festival of the Passover’ when I made the the decision to take up the cross and follow Him. I would like to say I never looked back; but like so many young people today I got enamored with the distractions of the world and look back I did. Thankfully I found my way back at the feet of God and now I spend my life encouraging others to do the same.

As a young girl in the Seventh day Adventist (SDA) church I had always been acquainted with the teachings of Ellen G white. However, it was only during my early adult life when I started to delve into her teachings. It was while reading the book ‘Ministry of Healing’ by Sis. White, I gained insights about healing with natural remedies. In the book she teaches how one can be healed using sunshine, water, rest, exercise, and nutrition; and I became fascinated with the idea.

During this time, I worked as a geriatric Nurse at a popular nursing home in Kingston where my responsibility was to administer pharmaceuticals to the residents there. While at the nursing home, I was becoming despondent with my job: I saw the many ailing residents being fed numerous amounts of pharmaceuticals all to no avail; and I saw that I was a part of a major problem-one where people were being led to rely on the short-term relief of drug medication, rather than the longer lasting benefits and sustenance of natural herbs and plants God provided to preserve us. I wanted to be a part of the solution, thus, I contemplated leaving my job. In addition, in 1992, I saw my own mother died of cancer after downing much medication and going through multiple chemotherapies. This gave me the push I needed, and I left the nursing home.

Though I did not plunge myself into the cause I now lead, I spent my time reading and learning about natural remedies while I was a stay-at-home mom and at times operating a restaurant. Yes, the inclination of starting a natural healing organization was always with me, and the guidance of books such as ‘Healthful Living’ and ‘Counsels on Diet and Foods’, both by Ellen G. White, aided in my quest.

In 1998, while operating a vegetarian restaurant, I would work as a missionary nurse travelling to the homes of the sick and giving them: Colon therapy, Nutrition therapy-teaching them how to prepare meals to become vegetarians- and Massage Therapy. For a few years, also, I would travel back and forth overseas where I would buy supplements to aid in my ministry; at this time, I operated healing sessions at my home.

After I closed the restaurant, in 2001, I did my very first medical missionary training with Uchee Pines, a natural remedy institution. Over the past 20 years I have had countless medical missionary trainings and certifications. One of my earliest clients came to me suffering from depression; she had previously been to a mental health clinic. After working with her, within six weeks she got better. This was the kind of motivation that drove me deeper into my ministry. This young lady too was motivated to continue with natural healing and believing in God. She is now one of the most outstanding bible workers at the East Jamaica Conference (EJC). I have had many such testimonies throughout the years; and with the guidance of my Lord and Saviour and the many encouragements of my clients, in 2015, House of Hope Restorative Center (HHRC) was no longer just recorded in the minds of the many people who got help but also on the Companies Office of Jamaica registry.

I am an Engineer who was born in Crayford, England. I am also a Seventh Day Adventist. Through the counsel of Ellen G. White, I wanted to live in the country and build a farm life. I, also, wanted to start a mission where the medical aspect intertwined with the gospel of God. However, I am an engineer with no medical background and so I sought one as such.

I came to Jamaica to be closer to my parents who had reemerged from Britain and was now living in the parish of St. Thomas. With the vast amount of land on this beautiful island I quickly found my country living. As I settled here, going to church and working in the field to bring God’s people closer to Him, I met Grace on a campaign at the John’s Town SDA church. We worked together on several projects after that, one of which was ‘planting a church’ at Cedar Valley in the parish and setting up a health campaign there. We quickly realized that we both had the same interest and calling. Hence, I joined in on her mission that would become House of Hope Restorative Center (HHRC). And what started as an alliance of hands morphed into the union of hearts. We got married in 2017.
